New Year's Goal #1

I just sent off our application to our new mortgage loan consultant for pre-approval. We have a first-time homebuyer's class on Saturday and we're meeting with our realtor after that. Let the house-hunting begin!!

mmm... dough-ey

Eric's mom got me a breadmaker for Christmas. Don't worry, I asked for it, and she thought it was weird that I wanted it.

I'm so excited, though! It came with a great recipe book. I'm cooking up some pesto bread as we speak. Yum!

My mom is coming up today and we're going to go pick up the new dining table from World Market. Double hooray!

PS. The bread maker also makes jams, sauces, and chutneys. Wow! :-)

Hello, there. I hate it when blogs I read don't post... sorry. I've been REALLY tired and ready for winter break to start! I have to work Monday and Tuesday, and then I'm off until the 5th.

I gave Eric a couple of his presents today. I love giving gifts... I can't ever wait until xmas day to give them! I always give him some early. Lucky him :-) I thought this calendar was funny and knew he'd appreciate it:
Good times.

I'm going to visit both families next week. It's going to be a lot of driving (for Eric... I'm just riding along), but then I'll be home the whole week after xmas. Hopefully I can catch up on sleep and get my brain back :-)

Oh, I sent my sister and bro-in-law this for their fetus. I think it's so cute!!! I got the ladybug.

Okay, that's all for now!

Am I Jealous?

I don't think this guy's really happy about Bush being there...

Am I jealous? Maybe a little... I sometimes think about throwing my shoes when I'm unhappy ;-)

Gift of Goats

So, if you read my post to Eric, you read about my new-found love of goats. Goats, you ask? Well, yes. I think they're really cute and if I ever live in the New England countryside, I want a couple.

Well then, you can imagine my excitement when I got a catalog in the mail from Heifer International. On their website, they explain their program:

Bringing an End to World Hunger Through Unimaginable Blessings

Today, millions of people who were once hungry will be nourished by milk, eggs and fresh vegetables.self-reliance

Families who for generations knew only poverty will be building new homes and starting businesses.

Children who once headed out to the fields to do backbreaking work will be heading into schoolrooms to learn to read.

And people who never thought they’d be in a position to help someone else will be experiencing the joy of charitable giving.

How is this possible?

With Heifer’s proven approach – almost 60 years in the making – to helping people obtain a sustainable source of food and income.

So, I'm flipping through the catalog, and lo and behold, a page of goats!

Moral of my post: If you're looking for a gift (especially a gift for me!), consider a goat. It would make me really happy. Not to mention, the family who gets the goat :-)

I started my carb-free diet on Monday. I've already lost 4 lbs. Huzzah!

I thought you weren't supposed to have to think about your body until after you hit 30. I'm still a couple of years away, but none of my clothes seem to be fitting me anymore. I eat really well and I'm active. I'm not so much of a gym go-er, but I am always up and around during the day. I used to wear a pedometer to work, and on a normal day I take around 7,000 steps.

I'm going to go for the next two weeks without eating any carbs. I just realized how addicted to them I really am after a big (carb-free) meal the other night when I still felt hungry.

Why two weeks? Well, on the Atkins website, they provide two weeks' worth of recipes. Plus, that will get us to holiday time. If reducing my carbs makes me feel as good as everyone says it will, I'll have no problem continuing through the season. I don't get tempted so easily.

We're going to the grocery store later today. Just finishing up my shopping list. I just have to be really careful to balance my ecotarian-ism with the meat-happy Atkins' plan. Off we go!

Jack Black

I'm so sick of everyone opposing same-sex marriage. That's fine for you not to think it's right. You don't have to marry someone of the same sex. But you can't make it part of the Constitution in a country that values separation of church and state! What are you going to outlaw next? Sex outside of marriage? Drinking coffee? Staying home on Sundays? You can't force your personal beliefs on others!!!!

Anyway, I've posted extensively about this. I thought perhaps a little song-and-dance number might be fun, instead!

To my Eric

This is for Christina. Well, of course it is for my Eric, but it's to ease my sister's mind, as well.

Eric, you are fantastic in many ways.
  • You cook delicious dinners for me every day.
  • You rock out on your guitar and make up songs for me.
  • You let me sing and dance around the house without rolling your eyes too much.
  • You take out the trash and recycling (except when you forget!).
  • You tuck me in when I'm crazy-tired.
  • You let me give you kisses whenever I want.
  • You rub my feet. A LOT.
  • You do the laundry, which is the bane of my existence.
  • You are quiet when I watch Grey's Anatomy (and you re-enact scenes with me when I REALLY need to) (that actually only happened once, and it was to make a point) (I'm not crazy, I swear).
  • You like that maybe I might actually be a little crazy.
  • You like to talk about feelings.
  • You bought me my first tattoo.
  • You look like a loon when you dance. It's cute :-)
  • You drive.
  • You water my plants when I forget.
  • You listen to all of the stories about my students and remember their names when they come up in later stories.
  • You play tennis with me.
  • You give nice hugs.
  • You're not jealous.
  • You read cook books for fun.
  • You're still friends with the people who were in kindergarten with you.
  • You have really nice friends.
  • You eat the baby corns from my Chinese take-out.
  • You have comfy sweatshirts.
  • You make me leave my comfort zone a lot, but only when you know it's okay.
  • You stoke a mean fire in the chiminea.
  • You taught me about glug. Oh, wonderful glug :-)
  • You let me finish the wine. And you buy merlot for me, even though you prefer cab.
  • You sold your motorcycle (although, you think you want to buy another one, now).
  • You learn about things that are important to me.
  • You can do stuff with cars.
  • You smell nice.
  • You look sexy with a beard, without a beard, with the van dyke, just about any way... just not with a skeevy mustache.
  • You like to kiss me in the bookstore.
  • You buy me presents.
  • You are a crazy liberal, just like me.
  • You support my new-found love of goats.
Have I gone mushy enough? So yah, don't worry, I love him more than Obama, okay?
