Crazy countdown

3 days until I get to hold Alivia.
7 days until Christina and Scott are married.
20 days until we close and get the keys.
50 days until school is out.
55 days until I leave for Korea.

WOW!

I was going to post the cute photo that came with Christina and Scott's announcement, but I can't seem to find it in our junky dining room/slash office/black hole right now. Believe me, it's cute!

UPDATE: 63 days until Jen, Lance, and Alivia move out here!

A whole week?

We've been busy this week. Eric's birthday was on Thursday (happy birthday, love!) and we've been doing (LOTS of) paperwork for the house/mortgage stuff. Yesterday we got to go to the wedding of a friend of Eric from high school, which was really fun.

Cute Alivia had pictures taken last week by Melanie Rice Photography, and I wanted to share my favorites. It was hard to pick! She's such a beautiful, and sleepy, baby :-)

Is it really going to happen?

We had our home inspection and radon testing done yesterday. It went pretty well! The lady who checked the radon said "Wow! That's a really great score!" when she saw the reading. The federal limit is 4, we tested at 1.9, hooray!

The home inspection was really good. There's a possible crack in the heat exchange, which would mean that the sellers have to replace the furnace, but that's a "paragraph seven" item. That means that the seller is required to fix it, it's non-negotiable.

Otherwise, things look good!

And, we saw this on the basement floor... it's a sign! The house is meant for us :-)

And by the way, if you didn't notice from the first picture, it was absolutely gorgeous outside yesterday! Ah, spring.

Cute little ladybug

This is the adorable ladybug blanket I bought for Alivia a few months ago. So cute!

And this is just another sweet picture.
In other news, Spring Break is over today. I went in to get some work done this morning. The kids come back tomorrow! Boy, that was quick. I can't believe it, though... only 9 more Fridays!

My new passport came in the mail today. Yay, Korea! I've been reading some books about the countries and trying to learn some words/phrases. The alphabet is a bit tougher than Cyrillic (Russian), but nothing as hard as Chinese! It's actually phonetic, it's just a matter of remembering what all the symbols sound like.

So far, I've learned how to say and read:
  • Hello
  • Goodbye
  • What is your name?
  • My name is Michelle
  • Nice to meet you
  • Thank you
  • You're welcome
  • And about 12 different names (Korean and American) -- it's helping me remember the symbols
Good times. I'm using a book called "Read & Speak Korean for Beginners" by McGraw Hill. It's actually been really helpful. It has flashcards, an audio CD, worksheets, and other helpful games/activities to learn. I'd recommend it to anyone trying to pick up a few words in another language!

Crafty

I made this to give to my student teacher when she goes in a couple of weeks. She likes cutesy, crafty stuff, and this is about as crafty as I could get :-) I covered a corkboard with satiny fabric and then criss-crossed ribbons over it. Where the ribbons cross, I glued a little mosaic tile. She can pin things onto it or just stick stuff under the ribbons to hold. I had fun making it!

Frustration

I am getting really tired of looking at houses :-( It's difficult to agree on things, and too many dummies out there are short. That makes it frustrating, because then we can't get these houses we want at the price they're worth, since the sellers spent way to much for it in 2007. You know?

Oy, so it's frustrating, that's all.

WTF?!?

On a “mostly party-line 46-53 vote,” the Virginia General Assembly “rejected $125 million in federal stimulus money Wednesday that would have provided additional unemployment benefits to thousands of jobless Virginians.” Gov. Tim Kaine (D) was “visibly angry” after the vote. Virginia’s unemployment rate is at 6.6 percent.

Our Rockin' Poem

I may have posted this once before, but I just ran across it again, and wanted to share. Hey Annie... holla!

OUR ROCKIN' POEM
By: Annie and Michelle, late one night in college...

i love you more than fat kids love twinkies

i love you more than tacos

i love you more than a teen loves clearasil

and berry scented teen spirit deodorant

i love you almost as much as i love cheese

oh wait, more than cheese too

you complete me like potato chips with a footlong sandwich

or a hot dog

you complete me like fried rice and an eggroll with my dinner

you smell better than homemade lasagna

or just shampooed hair

you make me feel like i just ate at the china king buffet

full to overflowing with goodness from the gods

you light up my life like an open refrigerator in the night

when i'm getting a midnight snack

we go together better than toast and jam

or cream cheese and a bagel

we go together like parmesan cheese on spaghetti

with some garlic french bread

but not on the first date

but really, i just like you more than being lonely on a friday night

More sweetness

Feel bad for me, please

I got fitted for a crown this morning. Way to start off my week with a bang! Here's my half-numbed face. Not nearly as cute as Alivia, but it's all I've got :-)

Alivia

TBD has a name

I've been waiting for more pictures from my sister before posting about baby's name, so I could add them here. However, I hear that having a new baby is hectic... so, no more pictures, yet!

Announcing...

Alivia Noel

In other news

Eric signed up for his first "race" yesterday. I say "race," because the first time is just a driver's education course. He loved it. Great.

He bought his '87 Porsche 924 last summer, and has spent countless hours out in the garage working on it to make it kosher for the track. We had a bit of a scare on Tuesday night... as he was driving around, what he thought was the transmission started making a terrible rattling sound. He had it towed to his mechanic and thought his plans to race on Saturday were dashed. Turns out, it was just a couple of bolts that came loose.

So, off he went. He headed up to the race track at Summit's Point, West Virginia early Saturday morning. The morning was spent in the classroom, then off to the track they went! He loved every second... even the seconds he spent spinning a bit out of control. Good thing that only happened a couple of times, and only when he was alone on the track!

I don't know if I'll be able to go out and watch him any time soon. Not because of restrictions, but because I don't think I can stand to watch him go whizzing around a race track with five or six other cars... yeesh! But, it's safer than the motorcycle he sold in order to buy the car!

Here's a proof of him flying around a bend. He's thrilled!

She's here!!!

When: April 4, 2009, 12:16am
Weight: 7 lbs
Length: 19 in
Name: TBD... just angel for now :-)

PS. Check out my sister's pic on her blog. Wow, I think she's the least-tired looking one in the group! Way to go, sis!

PPS. Is it just me, or do baby's hands look huge in that picture? Maybe she'll play baseball (or basketball) after all, Lance! :-)
