Seven Quick Takes

My heart is crying. I loved our little buggy. It's really surreal to think about your car catching on fire and burning to the ground.

We bought Ramona a new bed and put her crate in the basement. She picked it out at the pet store herself. Do you think she likes it?

My parents told me that you can change your toilet from a single flush to a dual flush without spending the $200 or so on a whole new toilet. Just change the handle. Who knew?? So, $20 and 10 minutes later... look how nice.

My first class of freshmen graduated as seniors last week. I never thought this kid would make it past 9th grade. It's so fun and rewarding to watch them grow up.

A picture of Alivia? Yes, please.

We're getting a patio done in our backyard. I'm looking forward to sitting back there with a cool mojito to mourn the loss of my buggy.

Stage one of my curtain-making summer. This is the first half of my Roman shades for the guest bedroom. I'm still working on the valance that will go across the top. Can you see the cute pattern in the blue? Love it.

The patio is done. Now I have to fix the landscaping around it...

It's a hot, hot, hot, hot day

Two sad, sad tales... is it car-ma?

On Thursday night, Eric was coming to pick me up in his Volvo from graduation downtown. A kid ran a stop sign and smashed into him.

Today, we were driving the Beetle home from a thing in Maryland and the car started to lose power. We pulled over to the side of the road and Eric opened the hood. The engine was on fire. The fire department had to come and put out the blaze.

In both instances, everyone involved ended up fine. And the Volvo should be taken care of by the other guy's insurance. But our poor, poor Beetle... and we only had it for 2 weeks... it makes me sad :-(

Livin it and luvin it

LiLu for MTV TJ

Want to know something crazy? I don't even know this girl. I almost knew her once, but then I went to dinner with my husband instead of crossing the river for a LiLu DC happy hour. Shame on me.

Anyway, she's trying to be MTV's first Twitter Jockey (TJ). Sooooooooooo not something I would even know the first thing about doing!! I haven't quite figured out yet why Twitter exists...

But, anyway. She needs people to vote for her. When the voting may be, that is. I think on August 8.

Some things: a collage bio of her (yes, collage, like in many pictures put together) and a breakdown of the MTV TJ search schedule. Or something.

I could kind of (but not really since I missed the happy hour) know someone super-reality-show famous! Holla.

To mac, or not to mac?

I went to the Apple store today to buy an iPad. They didn't have any. When I got home, I ordered it online. They told me it wouldn't ship until the end of July. I wanted it for the seminar I'm going to on July 6.

So, I bought this, instead. And $500 less than I would have for the iPad. I think it'll do just fine, since it's not even close to being my primary computer. Just an accessory.

So, yep, I haven't been on for a few days. Finishing up the end of the school year. Alivia (and her parents!) came back yesterday and I took a couple of super cute videos.

Also, Happy Father's Day, both to my own daddy (Pops up there in the first video) and to Ramona's!!

Hey, here's an awesome thing about having a fantabulous husband!

Eric accepted an offer to take a new job, today! Yay. He'll be starting on July 6....... and making just a *little* bit more money than he does now. And by a *little*, I mean a whole super lot.

We're going out tonight to celebrate!!

Videos of a baby

I've gotten very angry at my little video here, but not for its cuteness. Only for the fact that I can't get it to turn the right way. So.... enjoy its cuteness, despite its sidewaysness.

Hot diggity

I went to the fabric store today to pick up a couple of things... and I ended up going crazy. Here's a cute shirt I made this afternoon. I didn't even know I could do that!

New Toys

Eric and I bought ourselves presents. I got a Flip Video Ultra HD Camcorder. It's effing awesome. Here's a video I took last night of Ramona getting ready to go out. She gets a *little* excited about it.

Eric bought a car. Crazy kid. Cute, though!

Grapehound Weekend

A couple of weeks ago, we went to a greyhound event in western Virginia where we toured a number of wineries. It was a very fun (and expensive!!) weekend. The weather was beautiful and we bought a gazillion bottles of wine. And some new presents for Ramona. Yay!

Wineries we visited: Willow Croft Farm, Tarara, Three Fox, and Barrel Oak.

While we were there, we ran into a couple we had met at our vet's Halloween doggie party. We remembered them because their dog, Tabasco, looks EXACTLY like Ramona. During the weekend, we looked up their pedigrees, and it turns out they're cousins! Super fun. They're both offspring of offspring of HB's Commander, Karla Jones, Dutch Bahama, AND K's Flak. Super champions.

Oh, except only Ramona got the champion genes. Tabasco only ran in four races and got last place in all of them. Tee-hee :)

Some pictures?

We also took a nice hike in the Blue Ridge mountain range, which Ramona thought was fantastico.

P.S. The Tarara Chardonnay and the Barrel Oak Norton are TO.DIE.FOR. Just sayin'

It's been two months since I've seen my Livy. She finally got to visit, yesterday. Look at this girl!! (and her cute, cute curls)

I weigh myself every Wednesday. This morning, I weighed in... at my GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yay. P.S. That means I've lost 20.5 lbs since December. Holla!

Awwwww.... cute

Our realtor had a client appreciation wine-tasting event on Sunday night. There was a raffle for 4 items. Eric won a $20 gift certificate to the wine shop. Then, I won a fancy bottle of wine. So, I told them to draw again since there were about 30 people there and only FOUR raffle prizes.

We should have gone to Vegas that night, instead.

Oh, my flowers are looking so nice

I love poppies.

Only 9 school days to go and then final exams. Which are super-easy for me :) This year went by so fast! Def looking forward to the summer, though. No big plans. One wedding in July. One seminar, also in July. And that's all!

Hopefully I'll get back into my running. And I've started doing some needlework... needlecraft? embroidery? stitch witchery? It's nice. I'll post pics of my first cute project as soon as it's done.

Oh yes, and I'm going to make curtains for the house. I just bought the fabric for my guest room slash office. They're going to look awesome.

30 before 30

Having just turned 28 a couple of months ago, I decided that there are lots of things I want to encourage myself to get done before maybe I can't do them anymore. So, I've started a 30 before 30 list for myself. Not that I can't do things when I'm 40. It's just that Eric and I might actually have a bigger family someday, and I heard that can sometimes get in the way. Plus, I need to give myself a deadline.

Right now, I only have 5 items on the list, but I'll get it to 30 soon enough, don't you worry!

10 reasons I think I might be anal-retentive

  1. The toilet paper roll HAS to come over the top. If it's the wrong way, I fix it. Even when I'm not in my own house.
  2. If I see a weed, I want to pull it. No matter where I am. And if Eric lets me get away with pulling one, I won't stop until they're all gone or I'm dragged away.
  3. After eating at a restaurant, I stack up all of the plates, utensils, napkins, straw wrappers, etc., so it's not messy on the table.
  4. Our sink fell off the wall. We bought black tile to replace the holes left. The rest of the tile is blue. They didn't line up perfectly symmetrically with the sink, and it drove me so crazy that I snuck a little black paint from Eric and painted the blue tile. To make it symmetric.
  5. I might have had a slight panic attack if I would have had to keep looking at that off-center tile.
  6. If I'm grabbing something off a shelf at the store and notice a product not lined up or facing front, I'll fix it so it looks right.
  7. I arrange my cash from smallest bill to biggest and make sure they're all facing the same direction.
  8. If I write something crooked on the board, I erase it until I get it straight.
  9. I get seriously irritated when I see typos on anything in print. Books, menus, signs, flyers, etc. If I have a pen and can get to it, I'll fix them.
  10. If I have to wait at the doctor's office for 1 minute longer than my appointment time, I start to have major anxiety. So much so that my doctor thinks I have high blood pressure. Except that it's normal every other place I have it checked.
To name a few.
